IPL HAIR REMOVAL
Loose up to 90% of Hair!
IPL - Intense Pulsed Light is a technology in which light is converted to heat when it reaches the desired area within the skins layers without causing damage to the skin itself.
IPL was originally developed as flash lamps to treat other skin conditions (such as skin rejuvenation and thread vein treatment) and doctors and patients observed hair loss as a result.
Although both laser hair removal and IPL hair removal use light to cause thermal damage to the hair follicle, there are big differences. IPL uses specific wavelengths of light that are the optimum for absorption by the melanin pigmentation in hair yet at the same time minimizing the trauma to the skin.
IPL differs from laser by being able to deliver greater energies at optimum wavelengths while causing less damage to the skin. So they both work well, but the IPL is much less painful and affordable. Other than the fact that IPL is much more effective than laser and electrolysis, laser and electrolysis have been known for their high pain factor.
How does it work?
The area to be treated is shaved clean. The IPL head is passed over the area and a pulse of light is applied. Permanent hair follicle destruction is only possible if enough heat (thermal) energy can be delivered to the hair bulb and for a long period. The E-light IPL which is used here at Kylie's Beauty Boutique has Radio Frequency built into the machine to enable more heat energy to penetrate to the hair follicle for more effective results. It also requires enough melanin concentrated in the hair bulb to allow it to absorb this heat energy. IPL also targets and destroys the feeder blood vessels to the hair follicles.
The area is pre-shaved so that the heat is delivered only to the hair bulb and not lost to hair on the surface of the skin. The heat loosens the hair shaft and disables the cells responsible for new hair growth. This affects the 30% of hair which is in the anagen or growing stage.
Does it Hurt?
Most clients tolerate the procedure with minimal discomfort. However, the more the power is increased for maximum effectiveness, the stronger the "flicking" or "zapping" sensation on the skin.
Effective cooling ensures that the maximum destructive power gets only to the hair follicle and blood vessels which need to be destroyed at the base of the hair shaft.
Better surface cooling means the least amount of pain and discomfort.
Is it a permanent treatment?
IPL and laser, results in hair reduction. It should not be classed as permanent hair removal. The FDA has also not approved anybody to say that it is permanent hair removal. The reason for this is that hormones, medication, stress and other factors can make your body produce new hair follicles or stimulate dormant hair follicles.
When will I see results?
In a week to 2 weeks following your treatment your hairs will fall out of the treated area. About 20 - 30% of your hairs are destroyed with each treatment session and the rest will slowly grow back. With each session your hair will become finer and less dense.
How many treatments are required for a successful IPL treatment?
For hair reduction you will need between 6 and 10 treatments on each area depending on your skin and hair type. Some people then require a maintenance treatment once a year or so.
Is it Safe?
Absolutely! With our trained staff and the knowledge about lasers that we at Kylie's Beauty Boutique have, we enjoy educating our clients.
IPL only emits non-ionising radiation. This therefore does not alter the molecular structure and no cell damage is caused as the wavelength does not penetrate deep enough.
Therefore skin cancer from IPL is not at all likely.
Does it work on all skin types?
Skin types and most hair colours can be treated. Blonde/Grey hair cannot be treated as it does not contain melanin or colour. The "lighter the skin colour" and the "darker the hair colour" (with more melanin), the more permanent hair follicle destruction is possible with each treatment.
Darker skin colour means that more melanin pigment is concentrated in the superficial layers of the skin (Afro American, Indian and some Asian skins), melanin absorbs a lot of the thermal heat energy of the lasers and IPL light emissions making this an undesirable skin type for IPL treatment.
Do I need to do anything before my IPL treatment?
Stay out of the sun for one month before your treatment, and use a 30+ sun protection when you are exposed. Do not use "fake-tan" or solariums for at least 3 weeks before your treatment.
The procedure may have to be postponed if you have a tan, as we cannot treat people who have tanned skin because of an increased risk of pigmentation change. Do not wax, pluck or bleach for at least one month before your treatment.
Shaving is preferred as it encourages vigorous growth, making the hairs more susceptible to treatment.
What do I need to do after my IPL treatment?
Avoid direct sun light for 4weeks after the treatment. Use a high quality 30+ sunscreen. The occurrence of redness in the area treated is very common and may last for a couple of days.
Whilst the redness is present you must avoid swimming and the use of hot baths and scented lotions, soaps or exfoliants, shaving or activities that cause excessive perspiration. In the unusual case of crusting or swelling of the skin apply moisturiser; do not pick the area for it may cause infection.
*Study resulted 90% reduction using IPL on dark hairs in one area.
Radio Frequency / Face Ironing
As we age we all look for solutions to stop the signs of ageing. There are dozens of creams that claim to tighten the skin, remove the cellulite, and firm our skin. However, the effectiveness of these are very minimal.
Surgery proves to be an effective strategy, although the side effects and the risks involved have to be considered. Thats where Radio Frequency comes in. Radio frequency has proved to be an effective solution for skin tightening to treat loose and sagging skin on any part of our body.
Frequently treated areas with radio frequency are the abdomen, thighs, chest, and breasts, the thin and loose skin often found on the neck and upper arms.
How it works: A hand piece is rotated over the area sending radio waves through the skin to the dermis, heating the dermis without burning the surface of the skin. The following will then occur:
Tissue Retraction: The heat causes stimulation of the collagen fibers within the local tissue, to immediately tighten the skin.
New collagen formation: whilst the tissue retraction can be noticed immediately, after several treatments new collagen is formed to maintain the effect. This tightening effect is delayed and may take from 3-6 months to be visible.
Improved circulation: This treatment will improve the blood and lymphatic flow. To aid in a better oxygen supply to the skins surface and eliminate toxins in the skin to further reduce the effects of aging.
Radiofrequency Skin Tightening will give immediate lifting and tightening effects as well as longer lasting tightening within 3-6 months when new collagen has been produced.
Using Radio Frequency on the face, known as Face Ironing is proving to be the next best option before Face lifts.
More and more people start to prefer radio frequency treatment / Face Ironing over nonsurgical facelifts due to the downtime, risks and side effects caused by surgery. The procedure gives excellent and effective tightening of the facial skin, effectively removing the signs of ageing.
IPL PHOTO REJUVENATION
Skin pigmentation is a result of abnormal production and deposition of melanin by the Melanocytes. Melanocytes are pigment-producing cells.
The number of Melanocytes present in our skin will determine our skin colour. Production of melanin is dependent on UV or sun exposure, and is a natural protective mechanism of the skin.
Hyper pigmentation, or areas that are darker than the rest of the skin, result from excess melanin production and deposition.
Pigmentation occurs as a result of Sun exposure, Ageing, Hormones (melasma), Pregnancy (chloasma) and Skin Damage. The pigment can be near the surface (easier to remove) or deeper in the skin (harder to remove) and is often at various levels in most patients. Generally, the longer the pigment has been present the harder it is to remove, but reduction can usually be achieved in most patients.
Intense pulsed light is excellent at removing, or fading pigmentation caused by sun damage.
To successfully treat uneven pigmentation on the face or hands 4 treatments are recommended as a minimum. These sessions are generally performed around every 3-4 weeks.
What can Photo Rejuvenation effectively treat?
redness from rosacea & flushing
skin discoloration & mottled pigmentation
sun damage and photo aging
brown spots such as freckles and lentigos
produces smoother, even-toned, more youthful skin
IPL minimizes red and brown spots while it evens out skin color and texture. It also decreases red flushed appearing skin
What is Photo Rejuvenation?
Intense Pulsed Light [IPL] Photo Rejuvenation technology is a simple proven treatment designed to produce younger and healthier looking skin. By the increase formation of collagen in the dermis (skin), the appearance takes on a younger looking smoother complexion. As most of us age we begin to see signs such as facial skin imperfections. This may include freckles, Rosacea, wrinkles, broken capillaries, dark spots, blotchy skin color, redness of the face and neck, enlarged pore size and sun damage. IPL offers a safe, non-invasive solution that can be tailored to your individual condition and skin type, providing superior cosmetic results and outstanding satisfaction, through a process called Photo Rejuvenation.
How it works?
High energy light of a specific wave length is applied to the skin surface. The energy is absorbed by the skin causing a reduction of pores and a tightening of the skin due to increased collagen. The smooth glass surface of the IPL hand piece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light are applied. You may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band. The light energy is absorbed by the targeted area removing facial redness, erasing pigmented spots, reducing pore size and improving fine lines.
How often do I need treatments?
Treatment is generally administered in a series of 4 to 6 sessions at about 3-4 week intervals. It provides excellent long-term results, minimal adverse effects and high satisfaction. Each treatment takes about twenty minutes.
You can return to work the same day and resume all your daily activities.
By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk and, it preserves the wonderful no down time feature that people appreciate so much.
In some cases for minor capillaries only one treatment is required.
A repeat "Light IPL Facial" may be required once a year.
What should i expect after the treatment?
Immediately after your treatment the area may be a little red and or swollen with a mild stinging sensation.
When treating pigmentation, avoiding sun / UV exposure is crucial.
After the treatment you must do the following:
Every day use of a SPF 30+ or higher broad spectrum sunscreen.
Wear a broad-rimmed hat to keep your face in shade
No tanning for 15 days after your treatment
Keep the treated area moisturized
Avoid hot showers, baths or spas for 24 hours.
Once the area has been treated you will notice the pigmentation will continue to darken and flake off, this process may take up to 2 weeks. Camouflage makeup can conceal any discoloration.
Possible side effects
You may experience slight redness right after your treatment. This may last a few minutes or hours depending on each individual. Brown age spots and uneven pigmentation will turn slightly darker after treatment and then over the next few days will exfoliate off.
MICRO DERMABRASION
Is a Deep exfoliation of the skin. Creates a smooth, regenerated skin. Works well with reducing pigmentation and scarring and also can be used in conjunction with Photo Rejuvenation.
Using a hand held peice your therapist will glide the piece over the entirty of the face or area where necessary to remove the top layers of the skin.
This is a great treatment for an overall rejuvenation to the skin. Having a course of treatments works well to even out the skins complextion and any other skin conditions such as pigmentation.
